Before contacting the Help Desk, we recommend that you:
Restart Your Computer
- Sometimes, problems can be fixed simply by closing and reopening the program that is giving you trouble. Additionaly, many problems are resolved by closing all programs and restarting the computer.
Find out if anyone near you has the same problem
- If others around you are experiencing the same difficulties, it may be a wide-spread problem. It is important for the Help Desk to be notified of wide-spread problems as soon as possible. If you are the only one having a particular problem, it helps us to narrow down and diagnose the problem.
Ensure the computer and all cables are firmly connected/plugged in
- It is possible that one of your devices simply became unplugged. Be sure to let the Help Desk know if any of your equipment (phone, computer, printer) has been moved recently.
Write Down Any Error Messages You Receive
- Knowing the details of the error messages received will make it easier for the Help Desk to diagnose the problem.
Have Your Tag Number Ready
- In order to issue a work order for your problem, we will need your computer's tag number. This number can be found on your computer's tower, either printed on a sticker/tag or written in black marker.
